Hi there,
The Givat Ram University Botanical Garden in Jerusalem together with the assistance of the Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage and the Jerusalem Development Authority are preparing the spectacular winter event in Jerusalem. The botanical garden in Jerusalem turns in winter into a scene reminiscent of colder landscapes with bare tree branches and frosty air, a setting that is perfect for a breathtaking light display.
This year, the new lighting will be accompanied by a European market with plenty of things to taste.
WHEN: December 12, 2022 - End of January 2023
This year's event will be bigger and richer than any other year. Every evening, as darkness falls, the lights will turn on one after the other in a variety of colors. Every day, at 17:00, the garden will open its gates to visitors who come to watch the glittering performance. The light artist Gil Teichman and his team used about 2.5 million small LED lights that were hung over one kilometer and spread throughout the garden using 25 kilometers of cables. The bulbs are ecological "LED" type and economical in electricity.
During the past year, the Botanical Garden in Jerusalem has developed projects and activities that place it at the center of artistic and cultural activity in Israel. During the December holidays, the botanical garden will open a special route, about a kilometer long, spanning an area of about 14 acres, where visitors will enjoy a magical and specially illuminated experience just like abroad. The lighting on its many components is breathtaking and is displayed on the trees, bushes, and lake, in various styles and colors. Between the plants are hung chains of small lights, figures of deer, flowers, butterflies, and illuminated elements, some twinkling and some stationary, designed in the spirit of the holidays. Illuminated flames flicker near the lake and a shed lit entirely by yellow LEDs serves as a small café. Illuminated photo booths will be set up throughout the route to be used by the audience.
The illuminated trees are reflected in the waters of the lake and multiply the dimension of color. To all this will be added background music played by the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, actors dressed in illuminated costumes with different characters and a lot of magic in the air.
Food stands will serve dishes in the spirit of the season, including roasted chestnuts, hot potatoes with a variety of sauces, French crêpes, Belgian waffles, as well as hot dogs, hamburgers, schnitzels, soups, hot drinks, sangria, chocolate and more.
The University Botanical Garden in Givat Ram is a gem of nature in the heart of Jerusalem. The garden operates as an educational, horticultural, and research center with a diverse collection of plants from all over the world in a geographical display. The garden is a center for recreation, tourism, and cultural and artistic events as well as a center for education, training, and research. It is the largest botanical garden in Israel, covering 120 acres, and has the largest collection of living plants in Israel and the Middle East. Over 7,000 species and varieties of plants from around the world grow in the garden, displayed in six geographical sections (South Africa, Europe, North America, Australia, Southwest, and Central Asia, and the Mediterranean).
