I am happy to share with you some information about a unique artistic endeavor taking place in the south of Israel. The Light Opera Group of the Negev (LOGON) is a community theater that is planning to produce Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Into the Woods”. The musical "Into the Woods" is planned to be performed in its original English version in major Israeli cities in March 2019. In order to carry out this project they are asking for the public's support.
"Into the Woods" is a musical written by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim, which opened on Broadway in 1987 and won several Tony awards. The story interweaves some of the most famous fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm and explores the unexpected consequences of the characters' wishes and requests being fulfilled.
Where does the project stand?
LOGON has already hired a professional directorial team including a Director, a Musical Director and a Choreographer. In addition, they the best talents of the Negev region have been recruited, and after meticulous auditions have chosen a cast of 30 performers. Scenery design has been completed and the Costume Designer is still hard at work. Theatres across Israel have been reserved and rehearsals have begun.
What remains to be done?
Additional work has to be completed, both on stage and off: Building scenery and props, costume making, preparing the lighting, printing fliers, posters and the program, and much, much more.
What is LOGON?
The Light Opera Group of the Negev (LOGON) is a community theatre group based in the Negev city of Beer Sheva. For 37 years they have been bringing English-language musicals to large audiences around the country.
LOGON is the only English-speaking theatre group in Israel that tours the country with its annual production. They are unique in that aside from the paid directorial team, all the performers, back-stage crew and support team are volunteers – who even have to pay dues! It is a non-profit community organization.
Your support in reaching the funding target will enable LOGON to achieve their goal and complete the production of "Into the Woods", enabling many theatre-goers throughout Israel to enjoy the culture of Broadway in Israel.
