Requiem for Johnny Halliday: A New Biopic Live Show with Documentary Visuals

I am happy to share with you preview information about a new performance in Israel, named "Requiem for Johnny" presenting the real life story of the French rock and roll singer Johnny Halliday. This is a live biopic show, an innovative style of live music in which a documentary film is screened. The performance will be accompanied by musicians from Israel and abroad.

  • November 26, 2018 at Netanya's Mann Auditorium at 20:30

  • November 27, 2018 at the Ashdod Arts Center at 20:30.

Requiem for Johnny Halliday, A Biopic Show

"Requiem for Johnny" is a live and unique show that reveals Johnny Halliday's legendary life story through his great hits.

11 Israeli and French musicians will perform on stage including 3 guests of honor: - Maya Avraham - An Israeli singer who is also participating in the Idan Raichel project. - Nuno Krief - A French guitarist considered legendary from the TRUST rock band and who played with Johnny for 8 years. - Stephen Fella - a singer who accompanied Johnny Halliday on his last tour and on the last album released after his death.

Requiem for Johnny Halliday, Eve Pelula and Maya Avraham

The documentary takes viewers into the life of Johnny Halliday and introduces the significant stages of his life in chronological order.

JOHNNY HALLIDAY - A popular French singer and film actor, known as the French Elvis Presley. During his 57 years of career he performed dozens of tours and sold more than 110 million records, including 18 platinum records. In December 2017, he passed away, after an exhausting struggle with cancer and now a year after his death, it was decided to produce a unique performance in his memory.

Born under the name of Jean Philippe Samet to a Belgian father and French mother, who did not care for him, he was transferred to the care of his aunt. He became famous at the age of 17 and was the first to sing rock and roll in France , with a clear influence of Elvis Presley.

Requiem for Johnny Halliday

His first album, 'Laisse les Filles', was a huge success and immediately brought him to stardom in France.

On July 1, 1962, he was interviewed on Ed Sullivan's program, which was broadcast in the United States, which led to his becoming a star on a global scale.

Some of his songs were original and some were translations of well-known rock hits from the United States and the United Kingdom.

The first appearance of Jimi Hendrix's band was a warm-up performance for Halliday at the Olympia Hall in 1966.

Halliday did not stop appearing and releasing records and maintained a relatively stable popularity, considering the length of his career.

In 2000 he appeared at the Eiffel Tower in a show called 100% Johnny in front of an audience of half a million people.

Halliday also played in a number of films such as the detective 'Jean Luc Godard' & 'Pink Panther 2' and was awarded knighthood by the French Legion of Honor.

Despite his tremendous success, his biological father did not flatter or condone him, and he found comfort in his spiritual father, Charles Aznabour, whodied recently.

On December 6, 2017, Johnny Halliday died after fighting lung cancer, but he continues to thrill millions of fans who keep listening his songs.

The special film was directed by Eve Pelula, owner of the Paris Tel-Aviv Music Project, a singer, bassist, director, editor and film producer.
