During his 57 years of career he performed dozens of tours and sold more than 110 million records, including 18 platinum records. In December 2017, he passed away, after an exhausting struggle with cancer and now a year after his death, it was decided to produce a unique performance in his memory.
Born under the name of Jean Philippe Samet to a Belgian father and French mother, who did not care for him, he was transferred to the care of his aunt. He became famous at the age of 17 and was the first to sing rock and roll in France , with a clear influence of Elvis Presley.
His first album, 'Laisse les Filles', was a huge success and immediately brought him to stardom in France.
On July 1, 1962, he was interviewed on Ed Sullivan's program, which was broadcast in the United States, which led to his becoming a star on a global scale.
Some of his songs were original and some were translations of well-known rock hits from the United States and the United Kingdom.
The first appearance of Jimi Hendrix's band was a warm-up performance for Halliday at the Olympia Hall in 1966.
Halliday did not stop appearing and releasing records and maintained a relatively stable popularity, considering the length of his career.
In 2000 he appeared at the Eiffel Tower in a show called 100% Johnny in front of an audience of half a million people.
Halliday also played in a number of films such as the detective 'Jean Luc Godard' & 'Pink Panther 2' and was awarded knighthood by the French Legion of Honor.
Despite his tremendous success, his biological father did not flatter or condone him, and he found comfort in his spiritual father, Charles Aznabour, whodied recently.
