Ghetto Fighters' House: Holocaust Remembrance Day Assembly Invite

Updated: Apr 20, 2020

Hi there,

The Holocaust Remembrance Day Memorial Assembly is a 71-year tradition. From 1949, when the Assembly was founded, the first of its kind in the world, and to this day, this tradition has not stopped. This year, following the Corona epidemic, for the first time, there was concern that the gathering would be abolished. However, the determination of the Ghetto Fighters' House and the Matte Asher Regional Council has led to the production of the largest virtual assembly of its kind in the world.

WHEN: Tuesday, April 21st, 2020 at 09:30 A.M EST 16:30 P.M Israel time

With the blessing of President Reuven Rivlin, and with the participation of Arkadi Duchin, Roni Dalumi, Maya Avraham and Hodil Mazel, a nurse from the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya who treated dozens of Corona patients and even contracted the disease; Members of the youth movements, Jonathan Stein - educator, son of the Ghetto Fighters, a granddaughter of Holocaust survivor and educator Dorka Sternberg and Dr. Moshe Shner, a historian and son of a partisan and founder of Kibbutz Lohamei Hagetaot.

A few statements have been sent with the invitation that I have taken the liberty to translate.

Moshe Davidovitz, Mayor of Matte Asher Regional Council: "It is precisely these days, when we are required to stay in our homes, that we will all gather in a virtual assembly to mark the Holocaust Remembrance Day and the first museum established by the Holocaust survivors in the world. We will come together as a nation to pay our respects, to remember, to mention and to not forget."

Yigal Cohen, CEO of the Ghetto Fighters' House: "Every year, the Amphitheater in the Ghetto Fighters' House is filled with thousands of people who attend an assembly that commemorates the Holocaust Memorial Day. This year, due to the situation, the site will remain empty and instead we will fill the hearts and will all join the thrilling mass virtual assembly in which we will take part in storytelling, testimonial, lighting candles and singing together.

Arkadi Duchin: "For years I denied it, as if my parents did not go through the Holocaust, as if I was not part of it, the insight slowly permeated me and today we have only one option, to gather amongst ourselves, without compromise, without hatred, sharing the message with other nations."

You are all invited, the Jewish public, around the world and the masses of the Israeli public in all walks of life throughout Israel to join the virtual assembly that will be held this Tuesday at 16:30.

You are also invited to enter the Ghetto Fighters' House Facebook page and share family memory, testimony, or your experience visiting the Ghetto Fighters' House. These stories will be published and expressed during the assembly.

See you on Tuesday at the Ghetto Fighters' House virtual Holocaust Memorial Day mass assembly.
