Birds have been a constant source of admiration, inspiration and fascination throughout history for all people of all ages. Their ability to soar high and far, remarkable intercontinental migration, beauty, variety and strength, has gripped humanity since time immemorial.
The Bible Lands Museum will swoop back in time this summer with outstanding ancient artefacts presented through advanced multisensory technologies. Day and night, there will be a wide range of activities and events throughout the exhibition spaces and the Museum’s beautiful biblical garden, with special observation points and relaxation areas.
WHEN: Opening July 29, 2021
The birds featured reveal a rich world of ancient perception. You will soar into the sky and meet the ruling birds, dive into the water with primal winged creatures, walk the earth with strange flightless birds, and travel beyond the physical to meet otherworldly winged creatures. Finally, you will return to the heavens to a universal symbol of hope – the dove.
Highlights include: Ostrich eggs dating back over 3500 years, a 2000-year-old mummy of a bird of prey on display to the public for the first time, symbols of gods and kings in bird-form, Greek ceramics decorated with bird images, spectacular Roman frescos, and Byzantine mosaics from the land of Israel and surrounding regions.
