The Golden Gate Quartet: Live in Israel!

Hi there,

The Golden Gate Quartet, is an African-American vocal quartet that was founded in 1934 and still exists today. The show in Tel Aviv marks the beginning of the celebrations of its 90th year of activity. Over the years, the members of the group have changed, yet, to this day it is considered one of the most successful vocal groups of all time that became famous for its performances of the best hits in a variety of styles: gospel, spirituals, blues, and folk. One of the band's main accomplishments is its contribution to the transition of gospel music, from religious music played and sung only in churches and religious gatherings, to performances in concert halls around the world.

.

Elvis Presley was their number-one fan! In his youth, he followed them around the United States to see their performances, absorbed and was influenced by the music, and created an entire gospel album dedicated entirely to the band's songs. Paul Bramley, the lead singer and band manager, decided to return the compliment to Elvis with his well-known song "Blue Suede Shoes" and recorded their own version which they will perform for the first time in Tel Aviv. Among its numerous hits are:

The Battle of Jericho, Swing Down Chariot, Down By The Riverside, No Body Knows,, When The Saints Go Marching In, Ave Maria, Sixteen Tons, Mocking Bird, Rock My Soul, Old Man River, Go Tell it On The Mountain, Michael Row The Boat Ashore.
