"Desert Nights - Negev of the Stars" Festival

Hi there,

This August, the Negev Development Authority and the Ministry of the Negev, Galilee, and National Resilience are inviting the general public to visit the Negev in August as part of the "Desert Nights - Negev of the Stars" festival.

The festival will take place during the month of August, with over 300 activities, tours, workshops, and attractions for the whole family that will take place simultaneously throughout the Negev, at a subsidized cost of up to 20 NIS.

The Tourism Department of the Negev Development Authority and the Ministry of the Negev, Galilee and National Resilience, which lead "Desert Nights", announced the festival after the success of the "Desert Colors" Festival last December, which attracted over 16,000 travelers from all over the country.

The festival will take place in five regions, each with its own unique character - the northern Negev, Be'er Sheva, and the surrounding area, the Negev Mountain region, along Highway 90 from the Dead Sea to the Arava, and last, but not least, Bedouin tourism – "Desert Magic".

The festival will enable visitors to get an inside look at the Negev through the local people and their stories, colors, art, landscapes, and unique flavors of the Negev. The festival will offer an interesting combination of agricultural experiences, alongside urban tourism at its best, Bedouin tourism, nature walks, workshops, starry nights in the desert, a glimpse into Be'er Sheva's nightlife, spectacular views of the Negev at sunrise and summer sunsets. The festival offers loads of activities in the heart of the desert as well as accommodation in special places in order to encourage local businesses that offer services related to culture, tourism, recreation, and leisure.

The daytime activities are planned to take place in air-conditioned studios, galleries, and visitor centers. There will be outdoor activities starting in the afternoon when the temperature drops and the cool, pleasant breeze of the Negev kicks in. At night the Negev sky becomes a perfect setting for stargazing and other outdoor activities. As part of the festival, visitors will also be able to enjoy other local festivals that will take place this summer throughout the Negev including a beer festival in Kiryat Gat, a cool summer nights festival on the Negev Mountain, Ofakim festival, vintage celebrations, meteor nights in the Negev, a jazz festival in Mitzpe Ramon, the Ben Gurion march in full moonlight that I wrote about previously and a hot air balloon festival in the northern Negev.

Among the activities that will take place are local tours, a workshop for building Ben Gurion's image from recycled materials and a workshop for making musical instruments in Yeruham, photography and acro-yoga workshops in Mitzpe Ramon, sand surfing, desert cheese, and wine tours in the Ramat Negev Regional Council, raspberry picking in the northern Negev, jeep tours, sunrise yoga in Timna Park and a lantern walk in the Nabataean Moa antiquities site in the Arava, a hammock yoga workshop, a tasting tour at Tzuf Winery and a kosher culinary tour in Arad, a tour following the music in Sderot, meetings with the Bedouin tourism hosts of "Desert Magic", cultural performances, creative workshops and a Gaza food workshop in Beer Sheva and more.
