Post Holiday New Foods

Hi there,

Now that the High Holidays are over some companies have launched some foods that are recommended for your daily routine. The new foods in my review include the following:

  • 'Flax Bread' by Bikurim Food and Pastry

  • 'Fish Spice Blend' by Neptune

  • 'Avocado Oil' by Tvuot

'Flax Bread' by Bikurim Food and Pastry

Bikurim Food and Pastry is offering its flaxseed bread - rich in omega 3, protein and dietary fiber and very low in carbohydrates. Their recommendation is to serve toasted slices that are delicious with everything including spreads, cheeses, fish, salads, vegetables, pickles or cold meats. I'm including a suggested serving below.

The flax bread is made from golden flax seeds from Canada, whose superfood values are preserved with unique technology. The bread is rich in omega 3, protein and dietary fiber, and it contains a particularly low amount of carbohydrates (about 1 gram per slice). The bread does not contain sugar or artificial sweeteners and its composition contributes to a feeling of satiety.

It is available at retail chains and nature stores around the country and through the company's website via home delivery.

Neptune Company (1980), that specializes in the development, production and marketing of spices, seasonings, spreads and sauces, is introducing a 'Fish Spice Blend', a wonderful seasoning blend for making great fish delicacies - in the oven, sauté pan or skillet and is offering a recipe for making juicy salmon fillets.

The seasoning blend contains: peppers, paprika, coriander, garlic, herbs, sesame seeds, oil and salt, and is free of food coloring, preservatives and monosodium glutamate. The mixture is also great for seasoning cheeses, stews and spicy pastries.

The spice blend is available in several chain stores including: Bitan Wines, Hazi Himan, Bareket, MCK, Salah Dabah and in private stores around the country.

KOSHER CERTIFICATE: Parve under the supervision of the Badatz Edah HaChareidis and the chief rabbinate of Be'er Sheva.

Salmon Fillets Seasoned with Neptune's Fish Spice Blend

Ingredients:

  • 6 - 8 pieces of salmon fillet weighing 800 - 1,200 grams

  • Lemon wedges for serving (1/8s)

  • Fish Marinade:

  • 6 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 teaspoons of Neptune's soy sauce

  • 1 teaspoon Neptune's fine garlic crystals

  • 1/4 teaspoon Neptune's black pepper

  • 2- 3 tablespoons Neptunes 'Fish Spice Blend'

Preparation:

  • Mix the marinade ingredients and taste (the taste should be slightly spicy, with a light saltiness). Soak the fish fillets in the marinade for about an hour.

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C, top and bottom (not turbo).

  • Place the fish pieces in an oven dish lined with 2 baking sheets - with the top paper sprayed with a little oil. Make sure the part with the skin is facing down. Save the remaining marinade.

  • Bake the fish for 10 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven, brush the fish with the marinade and pour what is left on top. Bake for another 4-5 minutes and check. Be careful not to over-bake the fish. Large white spots on the side of the fish indicate that the outside is well done. Check that the fish is also well done in the center. If necessary, return to the oven for another 2-3 minutes. Before serving, brush the fish with the remaining sauce in the pan.

  • Serve with lemon wedges.

It is also recommended to serve the fish with a fresh vegetable salad, seasoned with Neptune's vinaigrette.

'Avocado Oil' by Tvuot

Tvuot is launching a high-quality "avocado oil", cold-pressed and marked with the green sign for healthy foods! The oil, is made from 100% avocado and is suitable for seasoning salads, cooked vegetables, stews, soups and more. Due to its unique composition, it is also recommended to be used on the hair and skin of the face, hands and body. Tevuot specializes in organic and natural food products.

The oil, which is manufactured in Spain from the Avocado fruit, is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (especially oleic acid), which, like olive oil, are desirable for the body. The oil is rich in carotenoids and even increases the body's ability to absorb carotenoids from other vegetables (beta carotene, alpha carotene and lycopene). The oil, which also contains lecithin and vitamins E, A, B, F and D, has a greenish color and a degree of acidity of less than one percent.

The taste of the oil is concentrated with a nutty flavor, so a small amount is enough. It is recommended to store the oil in a shady, cool and dry place.

Available at retail chains, health food stores and select stores around the country.

KOSHER CERTIFICATE: Parve, under the supervision of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel and under the supervision of Badatz Beit Yosef.

PRICE: 25.90 NIS for a bottle weighing 250 mL.
